Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Many consider our gender affirming voice training services to be an overnight success. But few people know that I started by offering these life-saving services out of the trunk of my car, going to client homes, for free!
What started in early 2021 as a tiny side project to give back has grown fast and furiously thanks to a unique voice training curriculum I developed, dedicated clients, shared knowledge between our team and community, and protective healthcare laws.
Still, I couldn't have imagined what it would grow into and mean to so many across the country. Now, we've served hundreds of clients, while developing a unique curriculum and welcoming the special voice exploration of each client.
Every voice is perfect. That's why I continue to take bold steps to bring the best voice training practices to our clients, who are also taking bold steps in their own lives.
Together for every voice,
Kat
Katherine Isaacson, M.S, CCC-SLP (she/her) is a cisgender woman and an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist licensed to practice in the states of New Mexico, California, Colorado, and Hawaii.
She is the founder and chairwoman of Gender Voice Center, formerly known as New Mexico Gender Voice Center, a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization, which accepts donations and provides a volunteer team of vocal coaches for folks who are without health insurance, and/or cannot afford the costs of copays, coinsurances, deductibles, or private pay. She is also the founder and owner of Gender Voice SLP, which publishes and provides training content for clients and clinicians. Her first book on gender affirming voice training can be found here.
Kat has a passion for serving the transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse community and their voice modulation needs. Her highly effective gender affirming voice training curriculum combines Water Resistance Therapy, Confidential Voice Therapy, Straw Phonation, and the Stanley Method to teach resonance placement and control for gender affirming voice clients wishing to create a new sensory motor memory process to change their vocal behaviors. When implemented correctly, her curriculum is safe, gentle, effective, and protective to the vocal folds and vocal tract.
Kat is currently training as a potential Democratic candidate with Emerge New Mexico, as well as earning her doctoral degree in speech-language pathology with MGH Institute of Health Professions, a Harvard Medical School affiliate. She earned her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and her Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis at University of New Mexico, and her Bachelor of Arts in English at University of California, Davis. In 2017, Kat was a recipient of the New Mexico Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities Fellowship (NM LEND). She completed the New Mexico Partners in Policymaking program the following year, in 2018. She served on the board of the New Mexico Speech-Language Hearing Association (NMSHA) as a Vice President of Convention during 2022, raising the largest amount of convention money in NMSHA's history.
Kat regularly presents on the topic of gender affirming voice training; you can find her list of upcoming presentations as well as links to her past presentations by clicking here. She completed her initial gender affirming voice modulation training at the University of New Mexico in 2018. She was awarded her first ASHA Award for Continuing Education (ACE) in 2024, and continues to complete several hours of continuing education each year with various SLPs and vocal trainers within the LGBTQIA2S+ community and across the globe.
